"Wrong About Japan"

Australian author Peter Carey has just released a book called "Wrong About Japan", about a visit to Japan with his son. In it, Carey talks about how he used his connections to meet Hayao Miyazaki & Yoshiyuki Tomino.

The book also touches on Manga, and other aspects of Japanese Pop Culture. The radio interview that I heard this from also talked about a contest with the book as a the prize.

That was the NPR interview, right?

I read the book a couple of months ago and summarised it for and for AnimeOnDVD, but no-one really has read it yet so I didn't get much conversation going...

I've read this book and all I can say is that is brilliant. It touches deeply into why anime and manga exist and how World War 2 fire bombings have influenced shows like NGE more than you'd ever imagine.

Buy it, read it, love it!
Monk's Lair

I hope he grins like Jack Nicholson
And forces you to play a game called "Balls On Chin"
And whatever happens next is all a blur
But you remember "fist" can be a verb

Alright! I wish I knew about this book earlier! Now, I can start writing editorials so the public doesn't only think of anime as demure, superficial, and volatile...Hmmm...Maybe then we'd get more people to actually find out for themselves rather than assuming what they read is right.
if you wish to on my soul
