Anime North 2003

There will be a convention held in Toronto, Ontario called Anime North, on the Victoria Day weekend in May 2003, that is May 16th to the 18th. It features events such as: Anime karaoke, masquerade (cosplay contest), special guests, Anime "Name that Tune!", and much much more. It will take place in the Regal Constellation Hotel, near the airport, and so you may book rooms in advance. This is one of Canada's largest anime events, so be sure to drop by. I will be updating more in here when more information about the convention comes in.

For all info, go to www.animenorth.com

And yes, of course you can still wear a costume, sheesh. People do it all the time. ^^

The true appeal of such conventions for me is the opportunity to meet certain people. That being said, I wanna visit Canada.

I'm considering going to Anime North... But only as an excuse to visit my old friends down in Mississauga... They're the bastards who got me hooked on anime so it's a pretty safe bet that they'll want to go with me...

I wonder if the latest WHO warning will effect attendance. Needless to say, Toronto is not happy with it.
Quote:
23 April 2003 -- As a result of ongoing assessments as to the nature of outbreaks of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Beijing and Shanxi Province, China, and in Toronto, Canada, WHO is now recommending, as a measure of precaution, that persons planning to travel to these destinations consider postponing all but essential travel

Kayay and I can bug the hell out of you. Say... are you willing to carry around a sign of our choice???

Yes Toronto is not happy with SARS, they lost millions of dollars in businesses and tourism.

But I don't think Anime North will be cancelled. They said they're gonna run it anyway. I think there will be full attendance too. Nobody wants to miss a good con (although this year their organization is craptacular)

Meh, SARS is overated. I mean the 1st person who is believed to have died of it was a 99 year old man. So it could have been anything. Seriously, it was on the CBC a few days ago. You have a better chance of getting hit by a car than catching SARS.

But I think it could be fun to induce panic by walking around, as PA suggested to me once, with face masks and the word SARS on it. One clearly good thing that came out of it for me at the very least was that airfair was slashed by $$$. I wonder if hotel rates went down too.

We can grab a marker and write SARS everywhere. It'll be a lot of fun.Until we get caught...
