Fav

I like Gackt, Glay, and Luna Sea.

Favorite songs -

Luna Sea - "I for you" (absolute favorite, theme song of "God, please give me some more time")

Glay - "Mermaid", "Aitai kimochi"

Gackt - "Wa-su-re-na-" forgot the exact title, but it was on the "moon" album

the only Jroock i've heard and liked is the pillows; everything else is too heavy. but the pillows have the best music i've ever heard. so could you be so kind as to point me in the direction of other jrock bands similar to the pillows?

If you like the Pillows, I highly recommend their source of inspiration the Pixies. I'm a fan of both

Pierrot
Plastic Tree
L'arc~En~Ciel
Dragon Ash (well, they USED to be good)
Zilch
Oblivion Dust
Lareine
Dual Jewel

My favorite JRock song has got to be Dahlia by X-Japan. It has everything a song could ever want.

X-Japan and what other J-rock I've heard is a bit too theatrical and over the top for my liking (that and it reminds me of hair metal). Hide's guitar gives me nightmares, really. I'm trying to get into J-Punk though because I like the energy of it. I've heard some Shonen Knife, and I like the Pillows. Anyone know any other J-Punk bands?

J-Punk? Try these guys out:

1.Dragon Ash (They're kind of a mixture of hip-hop and punk rock. Their lastest CD, Lily of da valley, sucks but their older stuff is great. If you're looking their punk-fock sounding songs, try these out:
Drugs Can't Kill Teens
Just I'll Say
Fool Around
Mustang A Go Go! )

2.The Mad Capsule Market's (Again, their older stuff is great but their new stuff....isn't. )

3.SEX-ANDROID (Kind of a mixture between The Sex Pistols and The Clash)

4. hide (his solo work is a lot different from his stuff with X-Japan, sometimes for the better.
Try these songs:
Misery
Pink Spider
Rocket Dive
Ever Free

Hope that helps!

see you space cowboys.

Wow, someone else has heard of them. O_O I've become obsessed with this band recently, especially the album Misery Days. Future Womb is one of the greatest songs ever.

I also like X-Japan (how can anyone not?), hide, Dir en Grey, and Malice Mizer, Luna Sea... Does Zilch count as J-rock even though it was done by hide in America? *shrugs* I really would love any recommendations for more J-rock bands to listen to in the style of the aforementioned.

I'd highly recommend you check out Pierrot. I've loved them from the moment they released the Finale album (1999).
I'd recommend pretty much any song by them, but every song on their new CD is like Jesus

Try these to start:

Clear Sky
Icaross
Rebirth Day
Love & Peace
Mad Sky
Agitator

see you space cowboys.

Where do you find your music anyway, is there a good site to buy Jrock CDs anywhere? I have yet to find one that doesn't just have the more popular groups...

If you read my post, you'll see why. I basically think of X-Japan as nothing more than glam rock via Bon Jovi

They're kinda like glam rock, but the specific term is Visual Kei. There are lots of bands like this that follow that trend like Malice Mizer (pretty much the most visual band ever!), Dir En Grey, Pierrot, Plastic Tree, Glay, Lucifer, Lareine, and of course X-Japan, who pretty much started the whole theme. I guess you could compare X-Japan to Bon Jovie, only X doesn't suck

I get most of my music off of Ebay. Just search 'Pierrot' or something and there are bound to be results.

But, when that fails I'd reccommend these sites:

www.jpophouse.com
www.cdjapan.co.jp/jpop/visualcd/
www.jpophelp.com

They should have what you're looking for.

see you space cowboys
