Actually, after studying pictures of ducks and swans in flight, i noticed that this type of bird actually folds back its legs and tucks it close to the tail feathers... kind of like retractable landing gear! Due to the taper of the body, most of the legs and feet are blocked from sight from a front view ...

jesus.....thats got to be one of my favorite pics i have ever seen posted here... maybe some artists work have seen mores skillfull, maybe a lot of pics have been better, but this one ------- touched me in the sense where i thought, "if this was a still shot from scenery, or a still shot from a frame in a movie, i know it would be a great moment, and i know it would be one of those moments where the placement was so clever that you think you could have never thought of it"
i cant really explain, but if you get what im saying......its a great pic

To Jackel,

I browsed the web for bird shots... I needed reference for the wing anatomy and proportion.

I then through around some sketches until I found one with the right mood for my project.

Scanned the pencil sketch into a real color tiff and used the following tools:

Airbrush
Smudge tool
photo exposure tool to dodge and burn
Airbrush set on white to "erase"
"Median" filter to further blend and soften the image.

btw... the image is larger 11 by 17 so there is feather and shading detail loss.

SamIam

Thanks for all your positive comments on this piece... you all keep me inspired in terms of anime art, but work constraints have prevented me from true fan anime stuff... but I will be posting more (anime) very soon...

I can't believe I missed this one.
sorry SamIam for being late.

Thats one smooth pic. You said
something went wrong, but I can't
see anything wrong. The shading
looks good. The detail on the wings
seem good too. Nothing seems out
of place.
