Number of fans?

Here is a question for the tech heads on the board.

I am building up a new computer and want to know how many fans I can safely run off the motherboard?

The fans I want to connect are the following: (all fans have 3 pin connectors)

3 Case fans
1 PSU fan (this lead is for BIOS fan monitoring)

I have 2 case fan connector points on the motherboard.

Not being an expert or even remotely knowledgeable on the subject, my guess would be the number of fan connector points on the motherboard is the number of fans you can "safely" use.

But, remember.....I am not an expert and set fire to my first PC when I turned it on.

My motherboard has 2 or 3 fan connectors but one of those connectors goes to the case itself, where I have my front case fan plugged in. You really shouldn't need 3 case fans though...my PC is pretty decent and it only needs 2 fans plus the PSU and vid card.

i assume you want to do this so the mobo can adjust the speed based on temp. all the mobo does is change the power (amps or voltage, i dunno?) to the fan. if the fans are all the same, it's probably safe enough to run them together off one power source. you will be able to connect the feedback wire from one though. i'd expect they would all turn quite slowly. check your mobo specs, it should list a max output wattage/ampage.

my antec power supply has specific case fan power cables, which speed up when the power supply temperature goes up. on these two cables i've got 7 12mm case fans in a "flyscreen" case, slowly rolling around. it's no noisier than most 2 case fan systems, but completely stupid, not to mention dusty.

Ugh I had to get a new laptop fan. $60 plus shipping. That brings maintenance fees close to $800 total for a $950 computer over the course of four years. Aaaaaahh...

i think 2 fans are enough for any kind of pc ... because for a surface area of a size of cabinet 2 fans are okay.

2 fans is enough yeah but any p.c of the 21 century can handle up to 4 fans ... most run on 3 2 in the back and 1 on the side and even one in the front but thats not necessary ... get a 500w power supply if possible just in case.
