Radio ads with Bebop's Music

Lately I've been hearing this ad's on the radio about shows in it wich used 2 bebop's songs. The first one used American Money and the second one uses NY Rush.
Now, is this legal? Do radios have to pay a canon to artists for the music they use in ad's or in their shows as background music (cuz I've been hearing as backgrounds on the radio (curtains they call that) many anime songs by now)

It's not legal unless they've paid to use it. And buying a CD with it on it does not mean they paid to use it. If you're going to play it on the radio, you need to pay fees to the owner(s) of the copyright every time it's played (unless, of course, it's a non-profit thing, or it's not copyrighted).

So what they're doing is, in fact, illegal. I'm not sure who you would talk to about it, but some city official would be able to stop it.

City officials doing something here??? HAHAHAHAHA
In fact I don't really care, I might guess the guys downloaded the file from internet, and because anime isn't much widespread here, and there aren't companies in here who have any interests in anime, things like this can happen. But, perhaps the radio is paying, you never know.

'American Money' uses as its base a fairly popular Banjo piece that was around way before Bebop. Check out the Chocobo Racing theme in FF7 and the Gambling Theme in Suikoden if you don't believe me. I have no idea about what the original piece was though.

I can't speak for NY Rush off the top of my head though. Haven't heard it.

No, it was the same American money, with the trumpet introduction, the coins, the shot and the "satellite control" thing.
I found out they used more than 2 songs, here's a list:
Bindy
Cat Blues
Gateway
I'm not sure anymore about NY Rush, I think they didn't use it after all.
and too good and too bad
