Spielberg to direct Lupin? (2003-09-13 18:39:22)
According to Dark Horizons, Steven Spielberg is apparently considering directing a live-action movie based on Monkey Punch's Lupin the Third anime series. No details are given on the site. Gerald R. Molen, producer of Schindler's List (directed by Speilberg), acquired the live-action film rights to Lupin the Third back in February. [ discuss ]
I recall hearing about a live action Lupin movie a while back, and to hear it maybe directed by Steven Spielberg .. well ohh sounds good. Well I look foward to this live action movie (well this and the Initial D one), I'm sure it will come out good or alright ..

I don't really trust the ANN anymore...they've been wrong more than a few times on things like this.

Sounds very unlikely, but then again, since Speilburg has credited Lupin as partial inspiration for Indiana Jones before...

The key word in that newsclip is "considering". Anyone can "consider" anything. That doesn't mean that Spielberg actually has any intention of directing it.

I'm kind of worried about Spielberg directing such a movie. Then again, maybe this whole "live action" Lupin thing worries me. Who could they find to play Lupin as he's really meant to be played? Or any of the other characters, for that matter.

Maybe it's not the grandson, but the grandfather that's getting a movie. By that I mean, the original Arsene Lupin, the original comics by Maurice LeBlanc, and not Monkey Punch's. That cool fellow that got animated in Nighthood a few years back. That's one French Canadian show I really liked. ^^

I hope Wu or Donner does it. They're the masters of the action-comedy movies. Jim Carey is wacky enough to be in it as Zenigata. Rob Schneider as Lupin
