I don't think she sucks, but her work doesn't really stand above any others either. I personally thought her work on Macross Plus ruined the great atmosphere of the original series and failed to connect the fanbase to the anime. She's probably recognized more due to the overhype anything Cowboy Bebop fanboys than anything else.

I doubt that

Vision of Escaflowne (Her finest work imo)
Turn A Gundam
BrainPowred
Ghost In The Shell SAC
Wolf's Rain
Macross Plus
RahXephon & Record Of Lodoss Wars Opening Themes

Even without Bebop she would still be considered as one of the best, though personally I think lately Taku Iwasaki & Kajiura Yuki are better.

Listing every one of her work does not legimitize her ability as a composer.
I've already mentioned her inferior hand in Macross Plus compared to the original series. Everybody knows about the success of the soundtrack of original, so there's no argument there.
Ghost in the Shell SAC is atrocious, nothing but electronic trance crap.
Escaflowne doesn't ring a bell, so it must've been not that good.
RahXephon is another one that you are very emotionally biased about, and the opening theme isn't very memorable if you ask me.
The rest I don't really highly regard any of.

Hmm so in reality her work doesn't really stand out except for Cowboy Bebop, which isn't really that good, just utilizing different music genre in anime. But I won't deny that she has a talent in composing wide variety of music style, as mediocre as they may be.

The only Yoko Kanno music I am familiar with are the themes she made for the Loddoss War serieses. They are good and all, but bore me very easily. The composition by itself does not impress me, and I have listened to a VERY WIDE variety of Japanese music. She is only one of many people in the industry as far as I'm concerned.

She only did the opening theme to the tv series.

There are more than just sales to indicate the success of original Macross soundtrack, and if you don't see it, you are justing looking for an argument.

Wow, I didn't realise how much people liked her, and how much music she actually did. I was only aware of the Bebop and the GITS SAC. It's good to see other poeple standing up for what they beleive in, no matter what anybody else says...BTW, I loved her Bebop and GITS SAC's CD's.
