"Popular series will have their own forum below"

Okay, what the hell.

I just came back because I felt like discussing Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. You know, one of the BIGGEST ANIME OF LAST YEAR?

No forum.

"Okay," I think. "Not a problem. I'll just check and see what the other forums are.... OH WOW"

No Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya.
No Akagi.
No Fate/Stay Night.
No Tsukihime.
No... well, most things, really.

The point I'm trying to make is that when I was an active poster years ago, the list was far closer to being current. It's like the spanning years between now and then haven't had any effect on which series are represented in this place.

I'm not talking about small, barely known shows. It's not like I'm asking you guys why you don't have a forum for Yokohama Shopping Trip or something. We're talking about award-winning, massively popular, very hyped up shows here. (Well, Akagi was more of a sleeper hit, but look me in the eye and tell me Haruhi wasn't the biggest thing in all of last year.)

Also, to pre-empt a response I see coming - no, I don't believe one just has to 'make a thread for it'. In my memory, General and Other Anime usually had 1, maybe 2 threads for a series, general threads where people gave opinions. Anime with their own forum had a whole bunch of specialised topics, people messing about, asking all kinds of questions and putting all kinds of hypothetical situations forward. Having a forum for a series puts discussion of it on a whole new level.

Is it really that hard to make a forum? Anyone who's ever run a messageboard will tell you it takes all of about 4 clicks. Unless AB is running on a VERY unique and VERY antiquated system I highly doubt it's any different here. Worried about cluttering? Well, isn't that why individual anime froums are now under alphabetical ranges on the main index?

I once heard that we were the 'laughing stock' of some other anime forums and, at the time, I called bullshit. We had a great community going here. (I only use past tense because I don't really KNOW what things are like now.) I see now, though, that we desperately need to be more current. It would really help put us on the same level as other forums if we at least acknowledged popular new shows.

Man, all those shows you mentioned, I watched religiously!! Akagi was definately the sh!t! Just loved how he mind-fu....people! I think the main reason why new forums aren't being made is just simply the lack of activity. The sad reality is that Animeboards isn't just what it used to be. Don't get me wrong, I still love coming here, but this place has definately changed.

My take is this, why go through all the effort to put up new forums when no one is going to post in them? Naruto and One Piece, for instance are very popular anime series right now, yet, there isn't alot of activity going on in those forums.

Upon further inspection, I see your point. I checked out the forums again earlier on today and saw that the one with the most people browsing was the Dragonball one.

I mean... what?

I really think this is a circular thing. We're not catering for enough people so not enough people are visiting. Not enough people visit so we don't bother to cater for any more. So long as there's a chance of breaking that, why not try it?

Laughing stock? My god that cracks me up, I never knew other anime forums talked down about one another, internet serious business.

I make the effort to create new threads over General and Other Anime for the new series (D.Gray Man, Pumkin Scissors, Code Geass, Busou Renkin, Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto - why the hell aren't people watching this one?, etc) but it either garner very little attention or none at all.

How many new members do we get a day now?! I mean have a look at the members list .., the last members to sign up were on the 5th of January and that was only three. And if we look back we only get a trickle of members a day, ranging from about two to five. I know that eva2000 is doing the whole process manually to filter out the spam boys but I just wished he'd open up registrations like they used to be and get the (now dissapeared) moderators to deal with the spam that might seep through.

Yes Animeboards really needs a good overhaul in all directions.
