Record of Lodoss War: Chronicle of the Heroic Knight Eps 1-27: I first saw this TV series yonks ago, & I hated it when compared to the original RoLW 13 part OAV series, which I adore.., but since CPM have gone belly up, I thought I'd better replace my VHS tapes quick, so I got the DVD boxset for about less than US$20.., I tried watching it again with an open mind, but the 27 episode TV series is poorly paced, the direction sucks, it has weaker animation, & is full of stuff which seems tacked on as an afterthought.., it may be truer to Ryo Mizuno's original vision for his Lodoss world, but longer doesn't necessarily mean better..,
Another thing I hated was the SD/chibified parody slots at the end of each episode; a waste of cel paint IMO & I ended up fast forwarding past it all...,
If you want a classic D&D fantasy anime watch the original OAV series.., it is superb, & tells the story in a succinct way, unlike the TV series which dragged on & on & on..,

R.O.D. (aka Read or Die) The TV Series Eps 1-26: The OAV of this series is one of my faves, it's a show that I watch a lot when I want to pass some time, so it was with some trepidation that I bought the TV series.., I was afraid that it would destroy my fondness for the OAV, as some of the online reviews said that it wasn't as good as the OAV, & it rates as the most expensive DVD boxset I've bought to date.., my fears were unfounded though, as the R.O.D. franchise as a whole has just jumped into my top 10 faves.., the TV series is a direct sequel, set 5 years after the events in the OAV.., the storyline is absurd (it involves the British Library for goodness sake!), & the plot gets a bit bogged down half way through the series, but the characters & the action sequences make up for the 'ploddiness' of the plot.., a ridiculous series, just as the OAV was, & I love it! So much so, that I'm gonna watch it all again this weekend..,

Witch Hunter Robin Eps 1-26 : Yet another series I bought on a whim. I had high hopes for this series; it has an intriging plot & interesting characters, but it's pacing is abysmal. It's very slow, slower than Noir was IMO (another series that suffers from poor pacing), but at least Noir had two great lead characters & some awesome gunfights. Witch Hunter Robin has a disjointed & sketchy plot, made worse by being stretched out to the requisite 26 episodes. The first half of the show consists of 'witch hunt of the week', then the plot gets slightly more interesting, but only slightly. The sad thing is that I realised what the plot was all about by the second DVD. Aside from the main character Robin, the character development was poor, which meant that I had a really hard time feeling anything for the characters. A chore to watch all the way through to be honest, & utterly crap when compared to R.O.D The TV that arrived with it. Yet another wasted opportunity.

I'm off to watch GitS:SAC 2nd Gig episodes 17-20 now; at least I know I will enjoy that.

Interestingly, I stumbled upon a good show from Nickelodeon ... Avatar the Last Airbender ... its suprisingly spontaneous and entertaining with an interesting blend of Asian and Western Anime conventions.

on dvd i watch the Case Closed. On TV, i keep up with Yu-Gi-Oh, which ended last week. So i might watch the new show coming on tomorrow. I watch Naruto on saturdays, and one piece, and Bobobo, and Eureka seven. I recently watched a new show called Oban Star Racers. Its pretty good.

Let's see...

I'm on Gunslinger Girl volume 2, and I just watched Howl's Moving Castle.
Up next is GTO The Movie (live action) and Texhnolyze 1.
