New Patlabor movie out in theatres: PRAISE THA LORD!

Yes, Wasted 13: Patlabor the movie 3 is out in theatres, and my ass is going to see it tommorrow. In this new installment, bio-engineered construction machines (guess the labors were too much trouble) run amok. I don't know if any of the old cast will be there and Mamoru Oshii-sama isn't directing it (some guy named Takayama Fumihiko, ring a bell?) but I'm still looking forward to it.

I only know of where it's playing in NYC, but you can look in your area by yourself. Just don't expect it to be in your local suburban multiplex.
In New York, see it at AMC Empire 25, 42nd st. at Eighth ave. (212-398-3939). Opened yesterday.

p.s. Who is the director?

*Slight SPOILER*

And the Patlabors are in only the last 10 minutes of the whole movie

What's the problem with that? This is like a side story to what goes on in the investigations themselves... Just like in the second movie, it focused on Goto and... Er... I always forget her name... Damn!

But we beat Cowboy Bebop to the theaters... HA!

You'd expect Patlabor to all guns and boom-booms? And Fanservice? What do you think this is? A Cowboy Bebop? Ha, Noa beats out Fay anytime of the week...

You don't like chara development, and some interesting plot twists, do you?

Bah.., wish we had anime shown at the cinemas..., aside from the occasional film festivals in London..., the only anime film that was shown nationally in the UK was Ghost in the Shell.., & even that had a limited release...., *sighs*

Apparentely, Patlabor 3 has:
- No contributions whatsoever from Mamoru Oshii
- VERY little screentime from the main cast
- Not a lot of mecha.

Okay, I liked Patlabor 2 but I'm not too keen on this latest instalment to the Patlabor saga.

Some great anime should really be left alone.....

Don't get me wrong people, it was a great movie. It just doesn't focus on the Patlabor team at all (and it wasn't supposed to).

Special Vehicles section 2 is there, however they're mostly there to shoot the monster. They pop up every now and then but they barely have any screen time. I would've liked it to focus on at least Goto if no one else, but oh well.

Another thing that bugged me was that there weren't much in the way of surprises, you kinda knew what was up and what was going to happen from the start. Not that it wasn't interesting and sometimes exciting mind you, just not twisty.
In it's favor though, the style and animation were quite good, though it lacked the pure atmosphere of Patlabor 2. I think it may just be the new director.
The final verdict: Not as good as the first two Patlabors but still a solid piece of work. Go see and find out.
Oh, and one more thing. The ending was sweet!

Just wondering: why is WXIII showing now? I thought it has been out for some time already?

No one knows. Such things are the whims of the American Theatrical Release Gods.

If you mean cinema release, it was shown at the Japanime festival. If you missed that then you've got no chance of seeing it on the big screen

If you mean DVD release, it's likely but not for a while I'm guessing.

Well I said before, this story focuses more on the supporting cast... Like 2 did, I thought it was a good idea, and it was more of a way to show the orignal cast in cameos rather than the acutal stars...

Remember, Patlabor is not about the Mecha, (Well it is, but that's beside the point) But the people who populate it...
