Ah, Newcastle...home of the single comic shop that opens only twice a week when the owner isn't surfing :

YUA is quite funny...not one of my favourites, but not bad...I'd probably recommend it The tv series recently finally got licensed. The 8-min long specials are also pretty good although heavy on the fan-service ^^; The animation in the movie is GREAT but unfortunately, like so many anime movies, the plot doesn't live up to it.

You're Under Arrest! is a great anime!

The beginning is a bit slow to develop but the rest of the episodes are teriffic!

This is one anime that you have to have in your video collection!

(God! I sound like an infomercal! )

Thumbs up YUA OAV's are excellent...

By the author of OMG...lightweight but really enjoyable
with good characters and gentle humor. It was actually
his first manga, but the OAV's are more recent than OMG
and the animation quality is top notch.

Sadly the TV series isn't as well animated or tightly
written. The `specials' are awful charicatures of the
characters, full of fan service and comic violence. The
Movie is well animated, and written, but way out of
character. So basically, the only ones worth buying are
the 4 OAV episodes.

I only have the 4 episodes, and I found them brilliant! Well animated, decent characters (around which I am basing 2 of my novel characters on, but not doing successfully) and one of the charatcers names.
Your Under Arrest! episodes (the ones i've seen anyway) are brilliant.

Also, the comic book store I go to (Graphic Action) is open all days ('cept Sunday.) The pawnbroker in Hamilton, though, is usually closed due to 2 or 3 workers going surfing with the boss.

The tapes of Your Under Arrest! that I have are getting a little worn, sometimes I watch them twice a day, and I'm still noticing some more of the inricisies (?) of the detail.

Also, Ive heard the term used a lot but I've never really asked, what does OAV mean?

OVA/OAV = Original Video Animation

Means the show was produced for the video market, rather than for screening on tv...the budget for OVAs is uaually bigger than for TV, so you usually get better animation/art/music etc in them. Sometimes they are stand-alone (Here is Greenwood), sometimes they follow on from a TV series, or they may spawn a tv series (like YUA, Ranma)...sometimes they use the same characters as the tv series but interpret it in a different way, with different different art/an alternate world/a retelling of the tv storyline (eg Kenshin, El-Hazard).

I saw a couple of YUA episodes (I don't know if it was the series, OVAs or what), but I remember that I really liked it. Both my husband and I were impressed with the animation.

Between YUA and OMG, OMG has a tighter story. But I like YUA a big lot because of the awesome characterizations, and occasional very nice police case.
