AI-CON - Tasmania's ONLY anime convention!

Are you in Australia? Are you looking for something to do this summer?

Well, come on down to the Devil's Island and take part in AI-CON - Tasmania's first anime convention!
That's right, Australia's only Summer convention will make it's debut on the 25-26 of Febuary, at the University of Tasmania. This is the effort put together by a group of anime nuts (myself included) and has so far garnered significant support from both Madman and Manifest.

Now, as the interstate laison for the con committee, I will answer any questions so don't hesitate to ask!

Come to the Anime Island!

Disclaimer: AI-CON is not to be confused with the Canadian anime convention AI-Kon. This is for a completely different con situated on the other side of the Pacific Ocean.

That's new. Looks like the entire country is getting into the whole con lingo happening. Unless you count Supanova at Brisbane but that's besides the point.

Edit: Either its just me or that link you provided doesn't work for me. D:

So it is. Just looking at this site, from their end it seems that they have done their homework. Since its the first con in Tasmania, let's see if they can pull it just like Manifest did.

So how did it go?

All in all, AI-CON was a big success. For a first time event, we got 200 people! Some of them were locals but a number of them were mainlanders from Melbourne (Manifest), Adelaide (AV-CON) and Brisbane. All of whom arrived skeptical but left with expectations surpassed. Representatives from TA market, Madman and Meatbag did a roaring trade and we had a lot of fun events run without any major disasters.
Me? I had a great time and all the events I organised won over the punters. I brought a new con innovation to Australian shores for the first time, Cosplay Chess (a game of human chess with cosplayers!), which many people were delighted to be part of. And I did an Who Wants to be a Millionarie variation involving answering anime trivia questions for Pocky.
I spent a few dollars and got to meet some real nice people too.

For the curious, here's some photos:

In fact, we at AI-CON were so on a high after the success of the weekend that we'll all gladly do it again. Therefore, I think it's fair to say that AI-CON is here to stay.
Who knows? Maybe I might see you at the next one in 2007......

Agreed, it was a fantastic con. It's a pity I didn't know who you were since I didn't arrive until about 11:30am on the Saturday and I didn't go to the Who Wants to be a Pocky Millionaire. I went to the Tentacle Panel. Now that was a very funny event. And my eyes are now open; Tentacles have been given a raw deal for years. It's the School Girl's fault. I was the Pocky Hat Dude. And judging by those pictures, I was on the same bus on the Sunday. I have some photos very similar. Oh, Oh, the Fan Parodies were Classic too. They were a laugh a minute. For some reason I feel like some Coffee Flavored Cheese.

All in all it really was a great con. I have not had that much fun at a convention for ages now. It's right up there. So well done guys. I hope to see you next year.

I'll post some photos later. I just go off the plane about 2 hours ago.

Yes, that's right AI-CON, Tasmania's ONLY anime convention, is up and running for 2007!
The proposed date is for the 10th and 11th of Feburary and pre-reg is offically open! (go here)

So yeah, come to the anime island!
Hope to see you in the crowd!

Well, it's just two weeks before the con. Registration is available and a whole plethora of events are now up on the con homepage.

So......is anyone going?

Just so you all know, I'll be cosplaying as Ace from One Piece on the Saturday (you've been warned).
