Ok, I have the first DVD of Sakura Diaries. It kinda ended with a cliff hanger and I would kinda like to see what happens next, right? But when I went to the store to get the second one, it was $30! Er...is it really worth that much to find out what happens next?

Chasta, well I personally liked the series. But, here's my take on whether its worth buying, I'm not sure if I would buy the series knowing what I know now. I mean, this is sort of the catch with a lot of animes out there because your choice is buy it or don't see it since not a lot of places rent anime.

That said, www.buy.com had it for like $16 bucks a disk last time I checked so you might want to look there first.

Let me say this, (and I'll try not to spoil it) I'm not a big fan of disk 2 because something that happens there. But, 3 and 4 sort of made up for it.

Um, here's some reviews from animeondvd in case you'd like additional points of view.

: Uhm, actually, well...no, it isn't. Sakura Diaries is a somewhat raunchy comedy---pretty far from Card Captor Sakura. You didn't sound stupid, it's a common mistake ^_^

I agree with Snowcherry--I didn't think that was a stupid question either. Probably one a lot of other people have, given the current popularity of Card Captor Sakura. But you'll see "sakura" pop up pretty frequently both in Japanese titles and as characters' names. I believe it means cherry blossom, so that shouldn't be to surprising!

Tenkawa, thank you for the information and the links. I very much appreciate it!

From what I've seen so far (only the first 4 episodes), it's just a little naughty. I've seen much worse.

Er...OK, I have to be honest. I find Urara's infatuation with her cousin a little...odd . I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not this kind of thing is looked down upon in Japan? Sorry if that sounds incredibly stupid, but I'm not exactly an expert on Japanese culture. I was just wondering if it was taboo there like it is in the U.S.?

Sakura diaries would be more appropriately called ecchi than hentai and .... they edited it a bit on the dvd from the japanese airing.... i noticed that !_! but... lets just say what they edited isnt that big but it adds a bit more humor

I can't speak directly to whether or not going after one's first cousin is a problem in Japan. I mean from what I've seen Japan is a very Western society in many regards, but a lot of the naughty things that people in the US would go nuts over are allowed so long as no one finds out. As for the US I believe you are allowed to marry anyone that is more distantly related to you than first cousin. So in theory second cousins etc are all good and I've actually read some books where this was a common practice especially in the south.

Needless to say the whole cousin thing is a bit awkward and I always wished that they could have redone the dialogue to make the historical relationship be based on family friendships and not actual family.
