Not as good the second time around?

I saw My Neighbor Totoro years and years ago, and I remember being so enchanted with it that I just walked away with a huge smile on my face. But about a year ago, I decided to pick it up and rewatch it just for the heck of it, and to my surprise the movie fell flat for me the second time around. This is extremely strange for me, particularly with a Miyazaki movie. I'm still not quite sure what I didn't like about the movie the second time around, but I guess it made me a little bit bored. I already knew what was going to happen but the movie does take a bit of time to get to where I already knew it was going. And yes, I know, I've just committed anime heresy by dissing My Neighbor Totoro.

So, for some reason, I was just thinking about that, and I decided to ask:

Are there any movies you guys have felt the same way towards? Or are there movies that you found were better the second time around?

I think that movie was so crazy and weird that it was enchanting. Once weird is normal, it would have less impact imo.

I think it'll be the same for any anime that teaches something in some way. Once you've truly learned the lesson, and enough time has passed that you've forgotten where you learned it, it'd have less impact.

So, Evangelion after 10 years of anime wont be so special imo.
