samurai x: to get or not to get?

other than it being called samurai x (i'm guessing that was a decision by adv), should i get the series?

i also read that it wasn't very light hearted like the other rurouni kenshin series. is that true too?

also, do you recommend that i watch the whole rurouni kenshin series first before the samurai x series?

get the subtile or the the dvd, it's worth it, and i don't think u have to see the whole series to understand, it's very serious, no comedy or SD, lots of bloody, kinda sad at the end

Run to your nearest anime retailer and buy the Samurai X DVD's. Yes Samurai X was a decision by ADV, but they kept 'rurouni kenshin' under the title I think. I like the TV series for entertainment, but the OVA is just startlingly beautiful.

I agree with Yui. Get this series. Its only 2 DVDs and the artwork is amazing. It is the prequel to the TV series so you're not really at a loss when following it. But do not get the dub.. I can't stress that enough

Whether its Sam X or RK its still the same anime.
So buy the episode series and the OAV which is highly recomendable. And if you want to complete the series get the RK movie as well even do I dont really recommened it.

Samurai X - way dramatic, nothing like the series at all, but I liked it, it was so charged with emotion, especially the second half... plus its just plain cool seeing this part of Kenshin, that you only see in parts during the series (well up to where I've seen anyway... don't give anything away)

well... If memory serves... this "prequel" was produced after the series and was intended to be watched after the tv series, or at least in the assumption that the viewer is aquainted with RK to some degree.

my reccomendation to you is to watch what has come out already at least (i think the professionally released series is up to episode 35 or there abouts) then watch the Samurai X "prequel"...
