The kind of 'Flashback' series happens every now and again..
Berzerk is a good example of this. The first ep is set after the end of the series (Chronologically at least). Universe just adds alittle to this with a nice neat resoultion for this...
In other words every head back to earth. I do like the carnivel annolgy that Ryoko goes onabout. Even if its not always true, since when does the same carnival head back.. Takes far to long...
