GXP: Seen It?

Have you seen the GXP series yet?
If so, what did you think?

Whoa! It's a LOOOOONG time since I was here, but I usually only come to animeboards to talk about Tenchi.

Yes, I've seen GXP. It's surprisingly better than it seems. It gives great insight on how Galaxy Police works, which is great for making a Tenchi BESM game. The characters aren't so great, the plot either, but it's still a nice show to watch if you're a Tenchi fanatic, since OAV3 will make much more sense if you've seen GXP.

At the same time, since GXP happens after OAV3 (3 years, IIRC), you kind of get spoilers for OAV3 in episode 17.

Global opinion: At first I thought it was a really bad Tenchi Muyo with no substance. After watching it all, I think it's an integral part of the OAV continuity.

UNKO!

No, and it looks alot worse than the others. I loved T in Tokyo, but this is ridiculous that there aren't even any of the same characters. How is it even Tenchi?

Ahem. The original characters ARE in the series.

At least Tenchi, Ryoko, Ayeka, and lil Ryo-ohki.

Don't forget Washu and Seiryo.

And these are really the original characters, not the clone look-alikes populating Tenchi Universe, Tokyo and other spin-off series.

I've watched the first five episodes and I've liked it enough that I've ordered more. It's interesting how they've kind of introduced stand ins for many of the characters. Mihoshi's mother is in there and they've even got a pirate named after Ryoko (although her personality is completely different).

So as a general question has anyone noticed that the sub-titles quality of this isn't as good as some of the other Tenchi releases?

Or is that me just being way too nit-picky?

Hmmmmm....

What I like subtitles to do is reflect the actual Japanese being spoken much more than the dub. I noticed that this was the case for the original OVA. Was this still the case for GXP?

Well, so like I said this may be a total nit-pick, but the timing of the subtitles was a little off and I swear the translations were a little off. As normally, my japanese isn't good enough to notice when they take some poetic liberties with the subtitling, but this time around it really stood out and some stuff seemed wrong to me.

Plus a few times it was weird because they were running text when no one was talking... which seemed odd.
