Talking The optimistic fantasy of a cybernetic utopia is now a certain reality

In but a week prior to the posting of this thread, Russian scientists have successfully created the first artificial brain. With 75 million artificial neurons, it has shown the capability to absorb and process information and arrive at logical conclusions to problems independent of human input.

Roughly two days later, Students in the University of California have successfully grafted a healthy and functional human brain cell onto a microchip, which now processes with astronomical speed.

The notion of stiff and clumsy hydraulic limbs for robots and cyborgs are now to be obsolete, for American scientists have recently developed a flexible silicone substance that would flex variably depending upon the potence of the electrical current passed through it. Though potentially capable of might rivally olympic atheletes, its pioneers declined research in its military operations, focusing on the development of lifelike limbs that would free amputees from daily ridicule.

Just as the bionic ear are opening the door to the world of sound for the deaf, microchips repalcing damaged retinars are giving the blind eyesight equal, if not superior to their seeing days.

Finally, biologists have recently grown a goat foetus in an artificial glass womb, pumping nutrients straight into the kid through its umbilical cord. The kid successfully developed into infancy and is alive and healthy as we write.

The seemingly absurd technological enhancements seen in "Ghost in the Shell" may not be so fantastic after all. However, instead of fearing it erasing the human spirit, we should all embrace the age of equality and hope that it brings. Infertile couples would finally be able to experience parental joy. Amputees and deformed children would habe equal opportunity in society to achieve their dreams. Disabilities would be a long forgotten nightmare of the past, as would the soul draining burden of blindness and deafness.

Let us embrace the future with hope and optimism!!

I did a huge project for my Physics class a while ago on brain implants and various other uses of implants. I think I still have the info. Want it?

Not arguing your point about just uploading info to your brain...uber kewl (matrix hehe).

However I still think there would a certain amount of knowledge and "hands on" you would still need to know. Also school, IMHO is still important because of the social aspect it represents. I know alot of kids say school sucks, they hate the people...they get picked on, however they say this like they are the only ones. I found others like me, formed bonds...learned how to handle ridicule. If anything the trials we face make us stonger people.

Things like that are something "Implants" will never be able to simulate.

True true... I guess my stand on that comes from that I'm just about to finish college/vocational school and in my near future I can see days where I'm at school around 12 hours a day...I could cut some of that down...besides.. I don't need social contact! I have my invisible friend Mr. Mikey! Bwuhahahaaa! *coughs* sorry about that... I'm getting tired...

Good on you, Mr Neojin!! Its great to see that there are poeple out there who see technology as a friend, but not a slave or exploitable resource.

Unless the cybernetics in question would remove the hurdles of a crippling disability, (say infertility, blindness, or altzeimers disease), anything given to you by it would be ultimately worthless.

Chilling would be the day when aspects of life such as friendship, honor, loyalty, and tender young romance are no longer cherished experiences, but are frivolous and cheap commodities that are forcefed directly into your brain. Or worse yet, completely disregarded in a coldly logical and technolgical world.

I never once started this thread with the intention of even implying that technology should supercede humanity. Rather, it should help those who are previously incapable of reaching their full potentials to live healthy, productive, and emotionally stable lives.

And part of such a life is to experience the adversities, and triumphs, of school life.

Good day.
