Heh, this reminds me of a conversation I had with my friend at 3am last sunday.

She kept going on about how she didn't get the whole SD thing and how characters faces just were weird. I must have been trying to convince her for 4 hrs.
Which also reminds me of another thing....I talked to her about animeboards.com and she's gonna register this Wed. even though she doesn't really like anime, but she's open to new things. Muahahaa another happless soul will join the addiction we call AB!

Treat her good!

toonami is not giving anime a bad name. if theres anything toonami gives, then its giving anime a chance in america. the problem is dbz and sailormoon. even if you air dbz on mtv, her opinion wont change, so toonami has nothing to do with her opinion.

and besides, not everyone likes anime. wheter its on toonami or not.

Toonami generally rapes the anime of any of it's original meaning though......

how? becuase they show dubs? in my opinion, the original meaning of the anime is the story itself. so as long as censors dont alter the story for some reason then its fine with me. and i really dont have a big problem with edits, becuase i normally buy the original dvd/video when i finish a series on toonami.

It's not the dubs...it's the cutting and editting and butchering they do to the poor anime...taking out all the good stuff. And all the character development goes out the window with all those scenes that they remove...I mean just ask Aku Shi about the difference between fansubbed silor moon vs. Toonami sailor moon....i guarantee you will get quite the earfull ... I would know.

So true..., both my parents (who are in their mid 60's) cried at the end of this movie..., they said that the ending was so tragic, & heartbreaking..., in fact, the Miyazaki movies are the only anime that my folks really enjoy...,

well, sailormoon is a different case. and ive never seen sailormoon on toonami for some reason. and the only edits they made to most of the shows (except sailormoon) are the curse words and nudity and other stuff deemed offensive. the only show that ive heard that takes out the character intorductions are SM, besides that, the character intros in outlaw star, big o(which was really good by the way), gundam wing and ronin warriors were kept intact. and like i said before, shows on toonami helps the sales of the dvd or video, as far as i know, endless waltz and the outlaw star dvd's were in the top 3 for one week due to the exposure it got on toonami

They killed Gundam Wing on Toonami

The sentece goes like this
"You can't surrender, it's not an attack, it's an excution"
It was said with beuty and elegance

On Toonami it's
"You can't surrender. Your time is up"
it was said flat and lifeless

Someday, somewhere, someone will realise that synching English to carelessly-timed Japanese lip movements isn't as easy at we want to think. If the general population wasn't so anal about having the lips synched to the dialogue, then more breathing room could be given to the translators, ADR people, and voice actors.

I guess the key we are trying to make is that it's foolish to condemn anime after watching only a few popular shows. Just like it would be stupid of me to say that all cars are gay because I had bad experiences with a Pinto and a Kia.

Well, first of all, you can turn them around. I have a friend who teased me endlessly about my "cartoons" and I would just smile and say, "You'll take it back someday." Finally one day his little brother asked to borrow my Gundam Wing tapes to see the Japanese version. He watched with his brother and was hooked. I showed him Escaflowne and the rest is history. I'm trying to work him into shoujo now that I've shown him Kenshin. ^.~ I've done the same sort of thing with tons of friends who origionally thought I was insane. You just have to find a genre they like.

Here's another intresting thing my sister wrote for an english class:

http://www.reikitantei.net/hitokiri_haven/essay.html

If nothing else, get them to read that, she did a decent job of putting up anime as more of an art form than ANYONE thinks of it.

Ciao~

sugoi! thats one really well writen essay! I'm glad people bring up this controversial issue of wheather anime is a cartoon or an art.

(and by the way "ciao~" is so my thing, i had that way before anyone else did.)
