Talking Ricky-Oh. The Story Of Ricky. One fine comedy.

Now, I know that strictly speaking this is not quite an anime. But since it is based on a Manga, I think that the discussion of this (unintentionally) hilarious comedy masterpiece would be somewhat relevant in this forum.

I saw this at 2:30 in the morning (I am in Taipei) a week ago, and initially my family complained about the sheer volume of my laughter, only to raise it to deafening poportions as they joined me in enjoying its ludicrous carnage.

Ricky, the bishounen hero of this Hong Kong movie, is sent to prison after avenging his girlfriend's murder by a drug dealer.

Now prisons in 2001 are privatised businesses ran by tyrants (don't ask, this film was made in 1992). The one eyed and mechanical clawed warden is a sadistic opium dealer who runs the prison with an iron fist (claw?) with the help of four ultra powerful martial artist prisoners. Now what they didn't count on was Ricky being the strongest martial artist since Saotome Ranma, and that he takes abuse and injustice very seriously.

All this superfulous and unnecessary plot is of course an excuse to tie together its lurdicrously bloody action sequeces that would make Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll's Director) vomit. Ricky being a super strong martial artist can (and has) in the film:

Punched through a person

Punched into a person and pulled out his insides

Tie the ruined tendons in his arms together with his teeth

Punch a person's head so hard the top of the skull falls off

Punch a person's jaw off

Bend Bars of his cell

Stop a hysterical prisoner from strangling him with his own intestines (don't ask, just watch )

Burst Through Walls (why he stays in prison is a wonder to me).

Hold up a hydraulic press while being elecrocuted by a 10,000 volt tazer

To say any more would spoil the funniest Manga-adapted Hong Kong Action movie ever made. SEE IT NOW!!

PS

Has the hilarious exploding head scene from the Daily Show on The Comedy Channel.

The Taiwanese version was heavily edited (so much that there are sudden music/frame jumps that don't make any sense), but still hilariously violent.

I saw this film years ago...., my folks were with me at the time..., & they sat through it all slack-jawed..., they kept saying how over-the-top the violence was..., I just couldn't stop laughing all the way through it..., it reminded me of Fist of the North Star...,

I watched it with my friends a few months ago.

Cheesy doesn't even begin to describe it.

It made Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead look like Bambi in terms of sheer splatter value, for crying out loud.

I saw the film way back in the early 90's dude...., & it was my folks who rented it out..., my dad thought the bit at the end where the prison warder became a snotty nosed monster was the weirdest part of the movie...,

Umm.., BTW dude..., I'm not a boy....,

Saw the American dubbed version. OMG, it's soooo funny when he tripped the fat guy and landed on his own spike trap, it was sooo cheesy, it's funny! Not to mention the exploding head... HAHAHA.

The "zzz-aaa-ppp zzzaappp" sounds of the Tazer zapping Ricky as he was holding the hydraulic press up only added to the B-Grade Hilarity.
