- Anyone Read Manga? -

.....or should i say look at the pretty pictures and try and figure out what the hell is going on......

theres not much discussion about manga on this board,.... kinda strange considering manga is basicaly the foundation of anime.
I have recently been traveling to a few manga book stores and Im still amazed at the sheer amount of manga that is floating around out there.... not to mention how dirt cheap it is.

litterly thousands of titles and ripe for the picking sure not being able to read japanese is a big downside to manga,.. but plot can only go so far without the gorgeous art work backing it up.

so what have you been able to get your hands on ?
whos your favorite manga artist, and whats your favorite series?...
did you find you enjoyed the manga much more than the anime that followed it?
etc...

it would be interesting to know if manga has influenced many people,... and even more interesting to see who has been lucky enough to discover the brilliant masterpiece that is the mario manga !.....

ill post more in a bit im way to lazy today

Well on another board I hang out on their was hardly any talk of manga like here until a manga forum was created and lo and behold their was lots of manga talk happening

so what have you been able to get your hands on ?

Love Hina Volume 1
5 volumes of rurouni kenshin manga
Nearly all of chobits volume 1

whos your favorite manga artist, and whats your favorite series?...

CLAMP i guess and my fav series would be love hina

did you find you enjoyed the manga much more than the anime that followed it?
etc...

Well for the start of love hina i enjoyed the manga better and the same with the first saga in rurouni kenshin. Though they don't have bgn and animation they explain the story better than the anime most of the times

Er, a lot of the manga I've read has been through manga scans I've downloaded...but I own a fair amount as well. I haven't really kept track of -all- of the manga I've read, but I've at least read a chapter or two of dozens.

Favorite manga artists...I guess Yuki Kaori, Sugisaki Yukiru, and CLAMP (I know Nekoi Mick and Apapa Mokona have done some of the art, but I'm not sure about the others), though I'm fond of the art of Aoi Nanase and Tanemura Arina as well. I like pretty, sparkly, flowy-haired characters, obviously o_o

Favorite series is difficult for me to decide. I'm thinking X, but once it concludes I'll probably be sick of it. So instead, I'll say Angel Sanctuary with Trigun following closely behind.

Generally, I prefer manga over anime, though Shoujo Kakumei Utena stands out boldly as a BIG exception. I kind of like Card Captor Sakura's anime better than the manga, because it's so lighthearted and fluffy. The manga delves a little too deeply into something I'm not particularly supportive of (the -big- age difference in a certain teacher-student relationship).

What have you been able to get your hands on ?
Well, I only recently began buying manga, so my collection is still fairly small. I have:

- Flame of Recca volumes 1-6, 16-17 (the reason for the gap is because the series covers volumes 1-16, and I've seen the series.)
- Imadoki! volumes 1-5 (complete series)
- Nurse Angel Ririka SOS volumes 1-4 (complete series)
- Kodomo no Omocha volume 1
- Fruits Basket volume 2 (need to get the rest of this!)
- Wish volumes 1-4 (complete series)

Who's your favorite manga artist

Hmmm.....this is a tough call. I really like Yuu Watase's art, but I also like CLAMP and Rumiko Takahashi's work.

Whats your favorite series?

At the moment, Fruits Basket has topped my lists of favorite series, both in anime and manga forms. I really like all the manga I have, however.

As things stand now, I'm more of the "look at the pretty pictures" group, but I do know some Japanese, so I've been translating my manga very slowly into English.

i read manga time to time, im fortunate to have a cool japanese book store, so they sell the original manga in japanese. some manga run around 5- 10 bucks us money. cause as you know the american ver by companies like viz sell for 20 bucks which i may say is steep. hell you can buy 4 reg mangas rather the us version. i have a few, but the downside is u cant understand it but who cares, i look mainly for character design and style used into drawing them

Umm.., there's probably more..., but I can't remember off the top of my head...,

Whos your favorite manga artist, and whats your favorite series?...

My favourite manga artist is Masamune Shirow.., *waits expectantly for mrgazpacho to turn up* I have been a fan of his ever since I picked up a copy of the first issue of Appleseed in 1987..., my fave manga series are Appleseed, & Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind...,

Did you find you enjoyed the manga much more than the anime that followed it? etc...

Hmm..., there are very few anime that live up to my expectations of the manga...., Shirow is a prime example of where the anime is utter bollocks when compared to the manga..., the Appleseed anime was one of the biggest anime let downs I have ever encountered..., after watching it, it nearly made me cry, it was so bad...,
Nausicaa, on the other hand, is one of my fave anime movies..., & even that doesn't compare to the majesty of Miyazaki's eco-fable manga...,

It's late at night and I don't feel like listing all the mangas I've read.So I'll just andwer the two questions

Whos your favorite manga artist, and whats your favorite series?...

That would be Katsura Masakazu.True he misses most of his endings but he writes some of the best stories.Mainly he decpits how not all guys are bishies waiting to gather a girl in their strong arms and say the words to make her meld nor are all girls beautiful babes who will love you for no apparent reason.
Also his amazing and unique draw style is a must see.
And finally his stories are touching in their bad and good times.
I've read all of his work;I's,Video Girl Ai,DNA2,Shadow Lady,M(and yes, some of his hentai work as well).

My favorite manga is I's,wich I think is Katsura's best work

Did you find you enjoyed the manga much more than the anime that followed it? etc...

It depends on the manga and anime. For calm stories like Love Hina and Video Girl Ai the manga is just as good as the anime, and a little better since it goes further.

But after watching an action anime like Rurouni Kenshin, the manga seems all but lifeless
