Picking up thread from elsewhere and thought this movie was worth it's own thread (although I haven't looked elsewhere to look for another).

Takahata's movie, based on an award-winning story by Akiyuki Nosaka, is indeed a very harrowing film; Not one for a family gathering, it is a film you will go back to again and again.

You will grow to love Setsuko and her Older brother Seita as they struggle against an unseen enemy.

A film, beautiful in its innocence and horrific in its execution; a masterpiece!

Definately one of the most saddest.., if not the saddest anime I have ever seen..., I cried bucket loads when I watched this movie.., & my folks who don't normally watch anime (but they like Miyazaki's movies) were in tears too by the end of it..., a must see anime..., but bring some tissues & be prepared to cry loads...,

I have the Central Park Media Version. I have no idea whether this is still available, but the Studio Ghibli Version is.

The version I have is a Cantonese dubbed VHS tape from Hong Kong..., it may have been dubbed, but the emotional impact is still there...,
