Furikuri is a 6 episode OVA series and movie from Gainax (the creators of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Wings of Honneamise, Nadia, Gunbuster, Otaku no Video etc.).
Set in a present day like place in a city called Mabase. It more or less centers around a schoolboy called Naota, and all the unlikely events that occur in and around him. I won't summarize the plot here because I'm trying to avoid spoilers. I visit sites like this to see whether a series is worth watching or not, so I assume others do the same.
I can't help but enjoy seeing a show that doesn't have the usual dull characters and situations. The plot is weird and certainly prompts one to continue watching to see what the hell is going on. It's stuck somewhere between serious, seriously bizarre and seriously comedic, and somehow it works really well (as you would expect from Gainax).
The animation is awesome, it uses good clean digital effects while maintaining a nice painted cel look. I do hate it when CG looks like CG, which it thankfully doesn't in this. The occasional 3D animation is seamlessly integrated to do some really nice shots.
anyone besides me heard of it?

The anime club at my school just showed eps one and two tonight-it was........interestning. Unfortunately, it was subtitled with white lettering, and I was sitting to damn far back to read them-the only time I could actually read a line was when the bottom of the screen was dark (for whatever reason).
So, I had no clue what was going on, basically......The animation style was really interesting, it's cool seeing how Gainax's style has changed from Eva to Kare Kano to this..........
Parting comment: "I think Gainax has gotten too damn good at Gainax-style freakiness......"

Just make sure to go to a really big university-check out anipike's list of anime clubs to see what schools have them ( I don't know about Australia though.....but there are a helluva lot in the US!)

And if you want to START a club, you can try writing the school a propasal-if you and your friends provide the tapes, it's not like you'd need funding-I can't see why they'd say no.

Dang, it sucks if they dismissed it that easily.....maybe if any of you have teachers that you are friendly with, they will volunteer to sponser it "officially", but it's not like they would have to do any work-you guys could just run the whole thing easily. There's usually one teacher that thinks that you are cute, I don't know, maybe because you remind them of themselves or something....
Also, did you submit anything in writing? It's a lot harder to say no if you make a good case in writing, outlining exactly what you want to do (the NO FUNDING NEEDED part would come off especially well.....) All you really need is a room, a tv from the AV room to borrow.....and.....that's sort of it.
