Let's keep the discussion aimed towards the legal methods of obtaining anime.
Columbia-TriStar is releasing the movie in early 2003. It may or may not get a theatrical run. Cartoon Network is looking into getting the rights to air it on TV.

I saw Knocking on Heaven's Door, and...
unfortunately...
It wasn't Cowboy Bebop.
Don't get me wrong. It had all your favorite Bebop characters, but...
Let me start over. Every episode of Bebop usually has ONE genius sci-fi idea implimented somewhere. Sure, some of these ideas have been done before, but some seem like total bursts of blinding brilliance, especially in how these ideas are integrated into the STORY).
Okay. Every episode of Bebop usually has one genius sci-fi idea.
KOHD did not.
Plain and simple. I'm not going to lie to you. The animation was superb, but it just wasn't up to par with (get ready for this...) THE SERIES!
BEBOP SERIES > BEBOP MOVIE
By far, my friends. By far.
So, when you finally do get your hands on it, have low expectations. Sit back, and just try to take in the SUPERB ANIMATION QUALITY, and you'll like it just fine. But as far as finding gratification in interesting, cool, strong story developments, I regret to inform you that the Bebop Movie lacks what the Series excels in.

Nano-technology is a sci-fi idea in my book.

Nano-technology was science fiction just a few years ago, but is now an emergent technology. Universities all over the world are embracing this new field, in degrees such as Flinders University's Bachelor of Nanotechnology

I don't know. To me it was better than the series as a whole. I can see how you can notice the sci-fi elements within the series, but that's not always the case.
Take Red-eye (man it's been sooooo long since I've seen the ep...is that what the drug is called?). We have drugs similar to this in the real world, but Cowboy Bebop exagerrates the effect in order to provide for story.
In Knockin' on Heaven's Door, there's nano-technology. In the real world, I don't think it's up to snuff to perform the tasks that they do in the movie.
I find the exagerration of these elements to be quite similar, so in a sense, I think that the movie and the series are quite close in story elements.
But that's just me. Until I read your post, I never even thought about something like that.
Booyaka.

The movie is superb. It is basically like a long episode, but that's a bad thing?! It's themes also parallel those in the series, for Spike most notably, and the experience Spike goes through in the film help, I think, propel him towards the events of the end of the series.

See what I mean! He's absolutely right! KOHD wasn't even sci-fi, and for a story that takes place in the future, that would be like waging a war against Microsoft today with an Atari. It's old news, and nobody cares. I was not impressed with the usage of nanomachines in KOHD, and for a multi-million dollar animation movie, I think I had a right to expect being impressed.
Good point, Schizm.

Damn thanks for the advice on Knocking on Heaven's Door. My friend really wants to get that movie so I'll show him the post. I was never that big on cowboy bebop as he was. I'm more into robots.

It's still sifi. In the day's of biplanes, jet engines are sifi. In the days of ememrging nanotech, hardcore advanced nanotech is sifi. If you do not see it as sifi, than teleportation is not sifi either.
