i thought they were the full short film, a short film being an average of 10 minutes.

there are 9 animatrix films altogether, which will be on the dvd.

atleast i think it is...

Yup, that about sums it up. 4 shorts on the web, 4 on DVD only, and 1 before the Dreamcatcher movie. That's the latest I gathered off the web.

Is it just me or does $25 seem like a lot for a DVD of 9 short episodes?

I found the 3 on the website to be very short... Does anyone know the approximate running times of the episodes that aren't out yet? Or perhaps the running time of the entire DVD?

Although the documentary included on the DVD, Scrolls to Screen: The History and Culture of Anime, might make it worth it...

Every Animatrix short runs about 10 minutes. With 9 shorts, that's about the length of a short (by today's standards) movie. This doesn't include whatever extras that may be thrown in.

In that sense, it's not a bad deal at all.

From ANN
More Animatrix on TV -TONIGHT- (2003-05-11 20:13:33)
Tenchi-Oak has written to inform us that MTV2 is playing 5 Animatrix shorts- Second Renaissance 1 and 2, Final Flight of the Osiris, Detective Story, and Beyond- at 1:00 AM EST tonight. [ No More ]
booya.

I can finally check out Final Flight of the Osiris. I've seen the others except for Beyond. I'm assuming it's one of the ones that will be released exclusively on the DVD.

Again, booya.

omg... anyone seen the fourth episode yet? (second renaissance part 2)
It's the most graphical one yet (and pretty damn shocking), but definatly my favourite out of the 4 free episodes.

Saw it yesterday. I didn't even realise that they would be releasing a fourth freebie until someone mentioned it to me . It's an interesting counterpoint to the first part, which really built up the anticipation with lots of storyline & dialogue.

The action sequences are pretty stunning, with great use of camera angles shot as if the viewer is sharing what the human ground troops are seeing, you really get to share their desperation as the robots close in. Cool mecha designs as well. (hope someone starts making garage kits for these.)

I'm certainly with you on the 'shocking' part. I thought the scene with the crowd beating the female robot to pieces in the first one was bad, but it's nothing compared to when the pilot gets ripped out of his mecha with his limbs still clamped in it o_0.
