Okay, I've seen some more of this marvellous series and it is just brilliant!
Who would've thought growing up through high school could be so chaotic?
Mind you, they certainly swear a lot for a bunch of High School students (as well as the teacher!)
Now here's a question for you all: Do you think Azumanga Daioh is a shojo or a shonen anime?

Hmmm.....Hard question. I think that Azumanga Daiou could pass for shonen and shojo. The thing is that it mixes both of them up together well, so its hard for me to tell which one really takes over. But, I am going to say that it could pass for a shojo anime because it's mostly aimed at girls. Most of the cast consists of girls. The whole anime revolves around them really, so you hardly see any male influences in the show...okay a few maybe. On the other hand, the girls themselves are attractive and down to earth, guys could really see themselves hanging out or getting to know them. So it could easily pass as shonen anime too.

I got a downloaded ep of ep 1 on CD along with the You're Under Arrest Live Action eps and had no idea what it was. Heard of it and my mate said it was good but i hadn't a clue so I watched it and it was fantastic and cute ^_^

Well funny as well... Though not the funniest but I could see myself getting to really enjoy the series... What are the chances of an American release? Since there's a lot of "buzz" with this title, I did hear good things, just didn't pay attention.

Well as far as the release goes, ADV is supposed to being picking it up, but who knows? I'm hoping that they pick it up since they have done a great job with Excel Saga.

It *will* be licensed. Madman in Australia just announced they have a local license, so as soon as a big US company puts together a sub/dub, we'll join in!

Couldn't they just skip the dub ? Has any company done some reaserch if the effort put into dubbing anime really pays off, espeicially in the case of niche animes like Azumagna Daioh ? It's not like 90% of the fans of this show would really care about the dub.

I can't imagine this show dubbed. It's hilarious as it is. I think it'd probably be a waste of time and money for a company to try to dub it (! Then again, I think that about most anime).

But you know there'll always be someone somewhere that complains if they don't have a dubbed track on there.

I shudder to think of how they could ruin the Osaka character....

(thinking of Miyaka dubbed in Fushigi Yugi)

I was searching for some reviews for Azumanga Daioh yesterday. The funniest thing is that it hasn't received not one bad review, not a one! This must be the only anime where noone has anything really bad to say about it. Question though: Would you go out on a limb and say that this is probably the greatest anime series of all-time or is it too-farfetched?

Personally I think AD is probably the greatest anime series in its own genre. But it might go the way of Eva when people would hype the show to that extent. People who don't find the AD amusing would probably start screaming "OVERRATED!" left and right as a reaction, maybe even demand their money back if they happen to buy the DVD.

I think Aaron White at Anime News Network is one who is bemused by its popularity. It just doesn't appeal to some people - there was a thread in the ANN forums with a few people who didn't enjoy it all that much.
