Very few live action adaptions of anime are better than the anime series......Apart from GTO, I can't think of any.

No orange pigtails for Chiyo-chan? That'd just be too weird...

Random off-topic stuff....

Yes, it's a very good one, I might add. Actually, it came out before the anime. Firstc ame the manga, then the live-action drama based off of it, then the anime. It lacks the same extreme humor as the manga and anime, but it's actually a very well done drama. If you can find fan-subs, check it out. It's a quality show. =)

No official release date as of right now. Check out the images at www.the-sugoi.com It's a french website. I can't wait to see it! Do you think it will be better than the anime?
Hmm, the person playing Tomo looks semi-psychotic.

What exactly is meant by "drama" in relation to the gto and ad live action? Soap opera "drama"? Or is it just a generic japanese term for live action?

btw, yeh, I'm still watching, it's getting better.

Um, azumanga daioh is pretty hard to make live-action. All that humour is kinda hard to do for real....well it should be interesting.

Drama is basically that, drama. This maybe me more of a "Soap Opera" drama since most of it involves female characters, so that's how I am thinking the term drama is being used here or could very well be considered a "Live action drama." But I am not too sure though?

I'd heard at least four reports that the Azumanga drama images were fan-created.

Not to say that it's for sure, but rumors do begin this way...

EDIT: "Drama" (or "dorama") used to describe a Japanese TV program basically just denotes live-action. It's not necessarily a soap opera--plenty of dramas are lighthearted comedies.

I can't see Azumanga daioh actually coming out as a drama... I don't think it could translate over as well as GTO if the reports of it being produce are real.

Question for those of you who have seen it and also have friends who have seen it... Do you and your friends have a favorite episode? and if so do you find yourself laughing hysterically for no apparent reason? I've found that episdoe 16 (penguin Chiyo-chan and Kumra-sensei in the cat hat) is the one episode me and most of my friends draw a lot of daily jokes and references towards. Especially from the fight scene. KYUUUUUU!

! It's been awhile since I've seen that episode. I can't remember the exact quote, but:

"We can have a cafe, and lots of animals.... and they're all dead."

Good old Osaka. When my friends and I saw that part, we couldn't stop laughing. It was hilarious. I'm actually kind of annoyed that it got licensed, because that was one of the few episodes I didn't manage to get downloaded! D'oh!

But... I'm not really annoyed. I just wish it was coming out already!

But as for jokes and references... no. We don't really draw a lot of references from it.

i heard this show was great, so i obtained the whole series + OVA, and after watching the first 2 episodes, i just cant seem to get excited over the series, theres no concrete plot (so far) and its just like some random stand alone episodes (like american sitcoms). does it stay like that for the rest of the series?

I'd say if you can't get into it after about 4 or 5 episodes, the show just isn't for you. After a few episodes you've basically got the feel of the show and that's pretty much how it's going to be for the rest of the series. So yeah, give it a couple more episodes. If you still feel the same about it, it's probably just a waste of your time to continue.

I for one love the series and would purchase it if it came out on dvd, but I don't suppose that's ever going to happen? Live in Canada.

Yes, that's part of its charm. Just stuff that high school girls do, for some reason I think it's really great, even though it isn't trying to state anything...
