ADV have it so at the very least you should be able to get it cross-border within 2 years.

I heard they were planning to get it out by the end of 2003. But who knows if that's true or not.

ok, ive seen 9 episodes, and ive come to the conclusion that AD is a mediocre series, at best. of course, this is just my opinion. but ive seen a lot of anime series' that are 'hot' in the fansub scene, but wasnt that succesful (by that, i meant not meeting expectations) when released on R1 dvd (ie. Noir, FMP! and as much as i hate to admit it, .hack//SIGN*).

*the tv airing of .hack//SIGN is getting good reception though

It is really funny as they say it is because I hear if you do not like it after a few episodes, then it is not for you, but at the same time if the series is really funny as people say it was then maybe I think I get past it not having a plot. Now could that be true because I'm really thinking about getting this anime, and if it is funny as people say it is then I will get it.

Yeah, it's pretty funny. It's one of those "feel good" anime that you just watch and have a good time with it. Although there's no real plot going on, the comedy makes up for the lack of it which is pretty unique to me. I am debating on whether I or not I should re-buy the series since I already have the Region 2 Box-Set.

Well the cast for Azumanga Daioh has been decided, there were a few suprises but, its going to be interesting to see how its pulled off well, here they are:

Azumanga Daioh Cast List
By Janice Williams

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Studio: IS&M
Director: Don Rush
Translator: Shoko Oono
Script: Mike Yantosca

CHARACTER LIST:

Chiyo Mihama - JESSICA BOONE - Affectionately known as Chiyo-chan, she is a child prodigy, who has skipped 5 grades to start high school at the age of 10. She is the embodiment of "cute" and speaks with a charming, childish politeness.

Ayumu Kasuga - KIRA VINCENT DAVIS - Nicknamed Osaka, because she is from Osaka, she is a rather spacy girl who transfers into Chiyo's class. She speaks with a very light Osakan accent and her speech is somewhat more polite than the other girls, who speak more casually.

Sakaki - CHRISTINE AUTEN - Referred to respectfully as Miss Sakaki by most, she is a tall girl in Chiyo's class, who is very taciturn, which many think is somewhat scary. In reality, she is just a quiet girl, who is very athletic and loves cute things, but just doesn't know what to say a lot of times.

Chihiro - HILARY HAAG - One of the girls in the class. A fairly normal girl with a relatively small part.

Yukari Tanizaki - LUCI CHRISTIAN - She is the homeroom teacher as well as the English teacher of Chiyo's class and is casually known as Miss Yukari. She tends to be rather immature and very competitive. She can also get very loud and throw tantrums, especially if she's drunk.

Minamo Kurosawa - MONICA RIAL - Affectionately called Nyamo by Yukari, her old friend from high school. She is the P.E. teacher and the homeroom teacher of the class Yukari considers her rival. Nyamo generally puts up with Yukari's childish competitiveness with aloof maturity.

Kimura - ANDY McAVIN - He is the Japanese classics teacher. He openly and unabashedly enjoys looking at high school girls, especially in swimsuits... preferably wet. He would be quiet creepy if he weren't so comical.

Tomo Takino - MANDY CLARK - The tomboy in Chiyo's class, she is loud, rambunctious, and not too bright sometimes. She is also the most childish member of the group and does not hesitate to tease poor Chiyo at times, though she is never malicious.

Kagura - ALLISON L. SUMRALL - Only known as Kagura, she join's Chiyo's class later on. She is the star of the swim team and somewhat of the tough athletic type. However, Tomo brings out the loud side in her and they sometimes go at it, yelling at each other, usually degenerating into trading insults. Kagura also feels a kinship with her rival in sports events, Sakaki.

Kaorin - TIFFANY GRANT - A fairly quiet girl, she has a girlish crush on Sakaki.

Koyomi Mizuhara - NANCY NOVOTNY - Affectionately known as Yomi, she is the studious one in the group, articulate and smart. She and Tomo have known each other since grade school and though Yomi is generally pretty nice, she has little patience for Tomo's antics and does not hesitate to snap at her.

I think the cast is pretty good though I would have had Tiffany Grant as Yukari-Sensai and switch out Nancy and Luci's roles. i cant wait for this to come out.

Well, I don't usually watch dubs, but sometimes when I'm watching a show the second time through I like to see how the American VAs play their roles. Although I'm sure that the dubbed version would never surpass the original in quality, the actors for the AD dub show that it will not fail to be a quality product.

Where is the Azumanga Daioh buzz? It's coming out on the 27th! (Or, if you pre-ordered it like me, you might already have it. ) I can't believe that all the Azu Dai fans on here haven't made a post about the release being so imminent!

Well, I guess I just did, so nevermind.

Anyway, love the dvd. Love it. The earliest ten episodes are the ones I've seen the most, but it didn't faze me that I've already seen them so often. I've only had the dvd for a week, and I've already re-watched the episodes three or four times. It's amazing how I still find it funny, even after seeing it so often. Most of the time, a comedy series is just not as funny as the first time you've seen it, because you know what to expect. But Azumanga Daioh is one of only a handful of series that seem to get funnier the more you watch it. Or maybe I'm just insane.

Gah, when's the next dvd coming out!!

Bah. Azumanga Daioh mania should transcend technical difficulties!

Yeah, I've heard that Newtype's got the preview disc for the first episode (dubbed). But... I don't know. Seems kind of like a sacrilege to have anyone voicing the characters besides the original seiyuu, no matter how well the English VAs end up doing.

i thought the anime was going to be boring, but it turned out to be very funny instead. i love the fact that nothing extra ordinary happens to them and just shows us real life situations, and that you can relate to them. also since this anime has no plot, you get to know the characters alot better.

Just finished watching Disc 3 (saved it up while I was busy over Christmas). Probably not as many fall-down-on-the-floor hilarious moments as the previous discs, but instead there's more gentle "character" humour. Sakaki vs. cats, Tomo vs. Kagura, Tomo vs. just about everyone else...

There's one classic scene though, when Chiyo is complaining how everyone keeps calling her cute, when all she wants is to be taken seriously. Osaka wordlessly rubs a pencilboard on Chiyo's head and flaps her pigtails around using the static electricity Talk about not being taken seriously!

I've seen Azumanga Daioh in its entirety and loved it. Picking up the DVD's as they get released, have the soundtrack and the first maxi single, recently got the tribute album. I also have the artbooks/episode guides which were very disappointing as there are far too many shots of the girls in bathing suits... I wanted sketch art not soft kiddy porn!!!!

Anyway, I'm a fan
