Kiddy Anime

Out of all of the Kiddy Anime out there (Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Zoids ect.) which ones would you rate the best. But more importantly, do you actually watch any of them???

Why Wolfy, I am an aficianado of kiddy porn *cough* I mean kiddy anime.

Sorry, that was just wrong

I would have to say that of all the kid-targeting anime shows on tv here in America, the best one would have to be (when a kid's point of view is taken into consideration) Yu-Gi-Oh. Pokemon is dead.

I watched Pokemon back in grade 6 when I played Pokemon Red on the gameboy, I quite enjoyed it back then but it got tiresome and repetitve very quickly.

I watched Zoids a year or so ago, because it was on Cheez TV and there was nothing else better to watch at that time, I found myself enjoying the series very much. Good animation, and fight scenes, story was surpisngly good and dubbing too.

Yugioh, I've also been watching this year, it's alright I don't like how every episode where they duel there's some new card or combo which somehow beats a super strong card but other then that it's some what enjoyable.

Beyblade and Crush Gear is horrible, I can't stand those two mainly because of the character designs and god awful dubs, even the Cantonese dub for Beyblade is bad.

But anyway favourite anime targetted at kids, My Neighbour, Totoro and a few other Ghibli ones. Also Zoids ranks high up there aswell.

I've watched a lot of Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, some Zoids, & I had the misfortune of watching Beyblade, because I babysit my mate's kid.., out of the three, Pokemon was the most entertaining.., the worst had to be Beyblade.., I couldn't believe I was watching a show about spinning tops.., My mate's little kid loved it though, & he has loads of those overpriced lumps of plastic & metal..,

seen 3 eps of pokemon, 6 eps of SM

a kid in my class brings in videos and i let them watch them on a wednesday afternoon,

week past it was crush gear, the first 3 eps, and it was pretty crap.

This week it was yu-gi-oh, eps 30-33 or something. Pretty crap too in my humble opinion, but better than crush gear.

I was thinking of taking in Slayers, but that is PG not G and i know a certain xtian teacher would go further off her rocker than she already is.

rebellion is in the air though.

Guess i could buy macross/robotech and put some culture into these kids. So im going with Macross as the best.

Well, if you're tkaing into consideration Miyazaki, then yes Totoro, but I was under the impression that more mature people watch Totoro, because it's really a great movie, and also that the question was more along the lines of imported anime TV shows, like Pokemon. To that note, Nokari, I was under the impression that Wolfpac was asking what shows you like personally, not what shows you think kids like. But I can't really speak for him, that's just my opinion.

Anyhoo, I think that Zoids is interesting and fluent enough to watch, but I can't sit through an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! without cringing in my seat. Literally, it's so corny, if you try to mock it, you sound just like the show. It looks like a parody of anime stereotypes at first glance. And Pokemon isn't much better. Every time someone says something, Ash repeats it in the form of a question, which is an item I found on an online list of how to annoy people. Plus, every episode, the audience has to deal with a recreation of one of the show's two or three plots; either the group encounters some sort of small buisness run by a family that uses Pokemon to help accomplish a task, or Ash has to figth someone in a gym battle, plus the tema rocket formula applied to EVERY episode. I'm not too much a fan of repetitive plot elements used as central themes like in dragonball, which contrasts oddly with my undying love for Love Hina.

That's it.

Laputa, without a shadow of a doubt. Spirited Away is also good but it doesn't cover as many themes as Laputa, and the sense of adventure and wonder is greater with Laputa (totally irrelevant but recently found out that "Musca" was Latin for "fly" which explains the name of the character)

Watched nearly 3 seasons of Digimon, several episodes of Yugioh, some episodes of Zoids and over 4 seasons of Pokemon. Would say Pokemon the first series is by far the most entertaining:

That would be a good summary of series 2 upwards, save for a small proportion of episodes. Series 1 is different though - e.g. episode plot variety: "Pokemon Shipwreck" Ash works with Team Rocket to escape a capsized ship, "Island of the Giant Pokemon" has Ash's Pokemon working with Team Rocket's, "Wake up Snorlax" has everyone trying to unblock a Snorlax. Incidentally, episode 1 of series 1 is the only episode without Team Rocket.

Other reasons for series 1 being in a league of its own:
a) The animation style changes - compare series 6 with series 1 - Team Rocket become less menacing facially and the characters become more and more generic like legomen. Series 1 had a lot more humourous character actions and expressions.
b) Dialogue and speech - less and less humour and more and more banal after series 1- compare the dialogue in the episode "Hypno's Naptime" with an episode from series 6 (more humorous and more natural/spontaneous).
c) Surgical removal of personality after series 1- new characters like Tracey speak like an answering machine and May is a non-personality. Misty loses her cutting edge seen in the first half of series 1 and starts stating the obvious and acting like a contrived mannikin. The same process is seen in Brock and Team Rocket, except at a slower rate. In the 1st series, the chemistry was there, Ash was the tenacious, arrogant one, Misty was there to banter with Ash, Brock was there to crack jokes and provide a serious edge to the group, Team Rocket was sufficiently malicious and consistently funny, Gary Oak was there to stir things up, and Meowth and Pikachu were there to provide different comic moments. It all went so horribly wrong after that.

If you could plot a graph of series number and quality, it would decay exponentially - the difference between series 1 and the rest is that great. It's like 2 different anime. You get the feeling that the producers of series 1 actually put some thought and effort into it.

So have I convinced anyone to watch Pokemon the 1st series yet?

The first season of Pokemon was pretty good. Zoids and Digimon are actually ok shows too.
I never really like Yu-gi-oh, though the cards were pretty cool.

I haven't really watched any of them recently unless you consider bumping into them by flipping channels. Kiddy shows I guess are usually ok for the first few episodes until the same corny morals and teachings and what not are repeated too many times.

John Faulkner,I wholeheartedly agree that Pokemon has just become worst over the season. They just keep adding pokemon and repeating the same basic scenarios.

And yet,it's still one of the best kiddy anime out there.

Beyblade is a joke. When is it said they can control their spinning tops with their "courage" and "strenght"?Worse off,I have a little cousin who's a fan of the show and she's convinced she can control her blade.

Digimon was funny the first series, but then the concept of "leave the fate of the world in the hands of a few ignorant brats and little critters",become ridiculous.

Yu Gi Oh gets boring really fast whenever a players draws a card,he/she must spend 20 minute explaining how it will win the game.

And that's about all the kiddy anime we see regularily...Well,that and Sailor Moon and DBZ,but they suck to much to be even mentionned....oh wait...
