Elfen Lied

Now this is absolutely the most shocking anime I've ever seen!To anyone interested in watching Elfen Lied be warned, this anime isn't for the faint of heart! It contains lots of violence and sexual references.

Also this series needs time to get used to because it keeps switching between cheerful comedy and dark violence.

After watching episode 5 and 6 I feel so sorry for Mayu-chan.

Who else has been watching this?

I've got the first 8 episodes so far, but haven't carved out the time to start watching them between DearS and Tenjou Tenge. I've seen some shots of it though, and it does look pretty gruesome at times.

I've been hearing alot of good things about Elfen Lied so I dropped TenTen (which isn't shyt compared to the manga) and have started to get EL.

I'll get back to you in a few days after I catch up gonna watch ep 1 know.

I watched the first 8 episodes last night.
At first I believed it to just be the sort of anime designed to interest a depraved individual (14yo raped by stepdead, cute cat girl who slaughters innocent coffee girls, huge amount of nudity etc) however Ive got the tune of it now. I think its looking to be a very interesting anime.

5 episodes to go.

It's because it touches the viewers in a way no other anime ever has.

I loved the conflicting raw emotions.I definitely recommend it.

I'm not convinced there's any sort of deep meaning to it, but the imagery was pretty good. I rather enjoyed the series.

Shocking eh? Are we talking Now and Then, Here and There-style disturbing, or Saikano-style depressing? Or is it more like the result of a joint project from a depressed Hideaki Anno and a pissed 'kill em all' Tomino?

Definitely something I hope was popular enough with the Japanese to have a 2nd season, since I hear the manga keeps going.

Word on another board has it that Mayu's homelessness was somewhat autobiographical, as the author used a time in his own life as reference.

Don't screw this one up, ADV.

As long as it stays away from the guy who directed the translations for 'Soul Hunter' and 'Orphen' they won't. Though even then, you'll have the subtitled version on the disc.

Then again Soul Hunter was a comedy and I thought how it was done was brillant.

It's been a year and I got the box set with the first DVD.

As much boobage and blood this side of a tenticle hentai!

Although it didn't pull much at the heart strings. Although I really felt a double take with that office lady in the opening. Ooo, should I spoil myself and read about what happens or should I wait... ARGH!

Yeh, that office assistant in the begining was a real shocker. Director used stereotypes to quickly inflict damage on the viewer and get the story steamrolling.

For once I agree with you...

I should note that the dubbing is superb for this series, and some of the ways the dark humor is presenting is amusing.
