Gunbuster II (Aim for the Top 2)

I caught the 1st episode of this and, I have no idea what to make of it. First of all, I'm not sure how a Gunbuster II could be made, given the time span of the original. This does seem like an alternate universe thing. I know it's the new direction of Anime, but it really seems too comicish. A good comparison would be Gunbuster II compares to Gunbuster I like Love Hina does to Maison Ikkoku. I guess I'll have to watch the rest of it, but as of right now it dosen't feel like the classic.

Oh ... joy? ... IMO the series stood well as a self contained epic ... I hope that Gunbuster II does not tarnish that classic.

The sick thing is that I want to see what was done ... so I will probably end up watching it.

I've seen some screenshots of Gunbuster II, & I have the same reservations as SamIam about the whole thing.., the original was a classic in terms of anime fandom.., a complete space opera in 6 episodes.., so I'd hate to see it get tarnished by a naff money grabbing sequel..,
And like SamIam, I'd like to see it too.., in a hope that it will do the original series justice..,

Wow.. I was searching for a "Aim for the Top 2" to join in on and it looks like I made one myself.. back in freakin' 2004. Well, I just got and watched the final episode and it's out there, WAY out there. Overall, there is no way this series will ever reach the level of the original. I did find the characters likeable, especially Lark. I also really like the opening song for the series. Also, I had thought that Diebuster was one of those "alternate universe" type things when comapred to Gunbuster... however, this idea is thrown right out in the final episode of Diebuster. For those that have seen it and want to open discussion on it, I'm game. Here is my first question, I'm color hiding because it might be seen as a spoiler:

Highlight to reveal...

Was Jung the first pilot of Dix Neuf? And possibly the one to leave the ancient message?

This boxset containing both series is out next year in Japan. The original series has been lovingly re-mastered too; I hope it gets licenced in the west sometime soon. *sighs*

I haven't seen it, I loved gunbuster so much! I hope it didn't ruin it! Nadia was a pretty good anime by gainax too.

I would too, if it didn't cost over US$120.

Do you remember what Jung's last words were in the original?
