Is anyone else excited at the upcoming FFXII?

When I originaly heard about it by somehow accidentaly stumbling on the japanese website I immediatly fell for the designs. Then when I heard on TV that it was from the team behind Tactics and Tactics Advance they had definitely hooked me up. I'm a big fan of FFT and FFTA, having finished and enjoyed all my way through of both. It had been a while since I had thought about the game but I've been checking out previews and designs recently and it surely looks good. It's giving me a good reason to finaly "upgrade" from my PSX in the future.(that along with a few other games, but mainly that)

So far I really like the designs for the characters, except maybe Panelo who seems kinda generic(but maybe Squeenix will prove me wrong). I especialy like the designs for Balfrea and Ashe which have become some of my favorite character designs(though I have no idea about their personality yet). Though Vaan(who seems to be the main character) looks kinda Tidus-ish, but that's only minor IMHO. I'm very curious about the gameplay too, I'm hoping for something different and refreshing, but not something annoyingly quirky that pushes fun innovation into tediousness. I'm also expecting a great storyline, as I am used to from the FFT team.

is it an online game like FFXI? and any idea of release date?

No it's going to be a offline game. Release dates I've seen are fall 2005 for US release and spring 2005 for Japanese release. I think an UK release hasn't been announced yet.

With a number of the Vagrant Story staff working on the project I have very high hopes. My only real worry at the moment is that its looking too much like Vagrant Story!

When a heard ages ago the FFT and Vagarant Story (the last great square rpgs) team were working on this I started looking forward to the best FF in a long time.

Don't like Vaan's design since I hate Tidus, the rest seem cool and finally the combat gets a major shake up.

I remember reading that the FFT & VS team were demoted after VS didn't sell as much as they expected, after a long time it seems they have been rewarded for making two great games.

Hah, personnaly I thought Tidus was one of the more likable main characters in recent FFs, so I'm expecting another likable hero even though the design is not very original.

I think I read somewhere that the story involves(partialy) kicking the ass of those pesky judges.(like those in FFTA) That would be cool, all the way through FFTA I felt like ganging up on those judges without being able to.

It was especially annoying when the battle paused for the Judge to move to the other end of the field. Takes forever for them to decide where to go -_-

I am excited about FFXII..intially i wasn't..but now I am alot. Haven't been excited for a Final Fantasy game in a long while.

Yeah between this and the new Valkyrie Profile I might kick my WoW addiction... until the expansion anyway lol.

I have FFXII reserved right now. I heard that it comes out on Oct. 31 and there is a collectors editon coming out that is $10 more.
