Wow; you're way off my radar. I'm guessing Howl, W&G and Corpse Bride.

I'd love Howl to win, but I think Corpse Bride might get it. (Note: it's the only one of my nomination picks that I haven't actually seen yet )

Don't feel too bad, I haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle yet, so I'm not sure what the rave is all about as far as the movie is concerned. It should be coming in the mail in 2 weeks, so I'll know if it has a chance. But, I still think that Robots and Madagascar are the 2 two biggest threats for it. The spoiler here could be Steamboy. I actually thought that was a good movie with some high production values to it.

i read an article that said one of the reasons why disney is associated with "moving castle" is because it was likely to get an oscar nomination, because they were doubtful it would generate alot of cash.
with that being said "spirited away" did win an ocsar, although "moving castle" isn't at the same level as spirited away.

Well I would have had my copy of the 4 disc set with film frame on Friday but....

DHL customer service lady was at a loss to tell me how my residential address was suddenly a business and why no notification card was left in my mailbox (despite people being home...) almost as if they attempted delivery to the wrong (#@&$ address!

Oh well hopefully I'll have it on Monday, one would hope! My fangirl friend got a copy with me to reduce the postage overhead between us. I want my four disc LE with collectable film frame NOW!

Well, after finding out that Howl's Moving Castle was the highest grossing Japanese film this year, I'm going to say that it may have a chance to get nominated. Was quite surprised when I read the news. Now all I have to do is watch it and see if derserves to get nominated. (From my perspective)

Not all that surprising considering Sprited Away (at least at the time) was the highest grossing Japanese film in Japan of all time

It didn't seem like a normal anime movie at all, I loved the first feeling I had seeing it, I felt like I was part of the magic.

'scuse me, it's late =P

Well, the nominations are in..

Howl's Moving Castle
Corpse Bride
Wallace and Grommit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Talk about being WAYYYYY OFF!!! mrgazpacho was on the money.

Based out of three selections, I expect Howl's Moving Castle to win without a doubt although I haven't seen the movie yet!!! But I've been hearing more rave reviews about Howl's Moving Castle than the other movies.

Which reviews did you read? Howl had a lot of mixed reviews with pretty much all of them saying it wasn't Miyzaki's best. Meanwhile the other two were pretty well praised with a lot of critics putting Wallace and Grommit on their 10 best list if I remember correctly. Out of the three of them if I had to take a guess, I think the Academy might go with Wallace and Grommit since the Academy are suckers for Nick Park, which they should be. I would certainly call him one of the best animators in the world today and more than deserving of another Oscar. While I'm glad that Miyazaki got nominated for another Academy Award, I don't think this is his year this year. Then again I said that about Spirited Away back in 2002.

Howl is to Spirited Away as Were-Rabbit is to A Close Shave, IMO. Each of them suffer a little due to comparisons with the previous, similar work.

Still haven't seen either Corpse Bride or Nightmare Before Christmas, so can't comment on them.

If I was to guess between Park and Miyazaki, I'd say the Academy will go for the Brit.

Corpse bride also suffers from that problem, I didn't see it but I saw enough reviews of it at time of release and all had to take a dig at it being derivative of NBC. So it will be interesting to see who wins
