Requesting Opinions on 2 anime: FLCL and Elven Lied

FLCL was recomended to me by my brother, plus it was produced by the same people as Eva, so I'm pretty sure I'll like it but I'd like to get some opinions and a little more idea what its about (no spoilers).

Elven Lied popped up on my Netflix recomendations yesterday. It looks interesting, but the reviews say its extremely bloody and graphic. Is this true? How bad is it? Is it worth it?

Thanks.

One's tragedy, one's comedy.

I give both thumbs up. FLCL is basically a coming of age story so it's fairly light hearted, wacky, and humorous. The entire presentation of the show is pretty unique (backgrounds, animation, music) and the story won't make much sense at first during the first watch through (they explain basically everything near the end, though). It won't blow your mind with philosophical ponderings, though (unless you really want to dig). Story is basically a mystery lady shows up and then stuff stars poping out of the boys head.

Elfen Lied is pretty much as violent and such as anyplace says and it rolls with a ton of cliche's. Lots of nakedness. It's pretty serious and dark but has its slapstick moments. The art itself is pretty regular. But it puts forth an interesting situation and it'll make you think which is what I enjoyed the most.

I truly love FLCL and really, absolutely despised Elfen Lied.

Where FLCL was absolutely crazy, Elfen Lied took itself completely seriously, which is sad because the message and theme of FLCL is so much more complex and, in my eyes, well presented than Elfen Lied's.

Elfen Lied fell into almost every cliche of that sort of anime series, like Chobits with decapitations.

both are on differnt sides of the happy-insane scale. flcl covers many themes in a fun abstract way (books like house on mango street, cosmicomics) while im still watching elvenlied, ep 4, it is unbelievable. i like the artwork and the music, and it seems real hopeful. WARNING it contains nudity, EXTREME GORE!!! but i like it. its an animated feature so no biggie.

I didnt immediately like Elfen Lied, but it is a nice show. It doesnt seem neccesary to be as gory as it was, but then again that DID make it stand out.

FLCL is weird. It never made sense to me why it was so popular. But it is quite humerous in its parody and presentation. Certainly not a bad anime.

I'll also put my hands up for loving FLCL and hating Elfen Lied. Chobits with decapitation is a good one Hiigaran, I'll have to use that at the next anime meeting

Both shows are good because they don't follow a cookie cutter approach that is common for some other genres. If you want to see something more than a bit different, you will like them for that alone.

My friend showed me Elven Lied...it was too much for me. The violence that is. And all it took was one episode....Then again, I'm pretty wussy. I do dab a little into Shoujo manga. XD

Hmmm all very interesting. I definitely want to see FLCL, and I'll probably try Elfen Lied as well...my only repidation was how graphic its been described as being, but I liked Ninja Scroll so..

No seriously, don't. they're awful, gory, dirty, repulsive anime that should never have been drawn in the first place. Watch them at the risk of your own sanity.
