Lunar Legend Tsukihime

This one is a bit weird. I just finished disc 1, episodes 1-4.

Shiki is a supposedly sickly high school student who one day, for no apparent reason, slashes a young woman into pieces. It seems that whenever he takes off his glasses, he sees lines which he can cut and thereby destroy anything.

But the woman he killed is a vampire, so she comes back to life and enlists his aid in hunting down other vampires.

I hope this makes more sense as the series progresses. I'll report back after I have seen all 13 episodes.

It will,in a sense, although the anime misses a lot of the story.Tsukihime,as most animes today, comes from a hentai game wich itself spawned many other games(Melty Blood being my favorite).

I loved the story.Ciel is especially awesome,I wished she had more screen time.

So is it a good anime for any of us to watch?

Yes it is.I liked the intrigue of the story.Early on,you feel there's something wrong at the Tohno manor, the maids are dodgy and then there's Ciel, who seems a bit too interested in Shiki.

Too many missing characters, but still a good anime to pick-up

I wish she had more screen time too. *sighs*

I was rather underwhelmed by this anime, not because it's bad or anything like that as the plot & characters are very interesting. It's just that for a vampire show, I was expecting a bit more action; it was just too sedate for my tastes.

Its a good mystery. But if you want non-stop action, this is not it.

I just watch episode 7, and I think I figured the whole thing out. I should finish up the series by this weekend. Saturday night I will let you know if I was right or not. (Don't worry. I won't post any spoilers.)

It took a bit longer than expected to get disc 3 from Netflix. It only came yesterday. I watched episodes 9-11, so I have one more to go. Needless to say, I was only partly right when I said that I figured out the ending after episode 7 -- that is I did figure out Akiha's secret, but I was wrong on who Roa was.

I did figure out the identity of the man with the bandaged face (who appears in episode 8) in episode 9, but there is more to the story than I thought.

Basically, starting with episode 7, at the end of each episode you think you have the whole thing figured out. But in the very next episode they throw you an unexpected curve.

I will watch the final episode tonight, and get back with my final assessment immediately afterwards -- if I have the time. There are some questions I would like answered. For example:

Doesn't Arcueid have a change of clothes?
Why doesn't Shiki learn the proper way to hold a knife?

Well,in the game it was more about intrigue than action so I"m not surprised the anime turned out this way.Myself I'm pretty sick of the new vampire wannabe good/bad guy that's in every vampire show right now.

Well Arcuied is pretty much sealed for hundreds of years until she comes out to hunt Roa and then she goes to sleep again. You can see in the earlier episode how she tries to make money that she really didn't have anything except the clothes on her.

Shiki wasn't properly trained in the art of leyline cutting I guess. lol

I wouldn't have minded the slow pacing & the intrigue so much if it wasn't for the 'build-up' of the potential showdown between Arcueid & Ciel; when it didn't happen I felt rather cheated.

Well, I just watched the final episode. Good ending!

In all, Lunar Legend Tsukihime is a pretty good series. It may take some effort to get through the first six episodes, but for the last six the tension keeps growing. It is not only a good mystery, but also a tragic love story. (I hope that's not a spoiler.)

As to the questions I raised earlier --

Doesn't Arcueid have a change of clothes? Vampires do not do laundry.

Why doesn't Shiki learn the proper way to hold a knife? Because the animators don't know either!

Anyway, I'm going to have to rent this one again sometime.

On another thread I have a spoiler question for those who have seen the series.
