Kino's Journey

Has anyone else seen the series? I just finished disc 1, and I find it awfully slow moving -- even the bloody, violent "action" scenes. But everytime I am ready to turn it off, something interesting happens.

The basic storyline, if you can call it that, involves Kino, a young traveler, and his talking motorcycle Hermes. They travel the world just to see what's out there, and it is not always pretty. There is a lot of philosophical discussion -- and I do mean a lot. Soul searching is fulfilling, but it does not necessarily make good anime.

I will rent disc 2 before I decide if I want to continue with the rest of the series.

No spoilers please -- in case I decide I like it enough to finish.

There was no plot and every episode is just as slow. The series is short though, so it wasn't bad.

One major flaw with your summery, but I won't say anything.

If you are refering to episode 4, then that would be a spoiler.

I finished disc 2 (episodes 5-7). Things are looking a little better. There's more drama, and the stories are better told. I still rank this anime as borderline, but I think I will stick with it until the end. I will let you know what I think of it when it is finished.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I really like Kino's Journey. Even if every episode was just a slow short story, I got really hooked on it. I'm pretty sure that I watched all 13 episodes in one sitting. I can't tell you why, but it really was an enjoyable series for me.

I forgot to mention that I figured out the plot twist in episode 7 while watching episode 6. But the twist in episode 4 threw me for a loop.

Anyway, I decided to stick with the series since the episodes on disc 2 were more interesting. I will give my final analysis next week.

I finished disc 3 (episodes 8-10). Episode 9 about the city of books really screwed with the mind. But the other two episodes were nothing special. I hope to finish off disc 4 within the next day or two. I will save my final judgment for then.

It's OK.

It's morbid enough to be not for kids, and it isn't hentai/echi at all, so it gets bonus originality points from me.

However, a series with a similar theme that does a much better job at it is Mushishi.

Thumbs down

I just finished the series, and I have mixed feelings about it. Some of the episodes did intrigue me. Others just went nowhere and were a chore to watch.

I was also troubled by the main characters amorality. In one episode, Kino does nothing to stop a murder, and in another watches a genocide without really protesting. Anyone else troubled by this?

I guess I'll rate this one average. I found it to be nothing special. I will give it an "A" for effort.

I will look for Mushishi.

When I first saw a trailer about Kino's Journey on one of the anime DVD I have, I thought Kino's Journey is a good anime to see. I haven't seen the anime yet but I do plan on watching it.
