Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea

The trailer for the new Miyazaki movie is online. I'm sure that the more resourceful of you can find it. This movie looks absolutely delightful. I can't wait for it to come out! Also the theme tune is too catchy.

The theme is catchy, but quickly becomes annoying when everyone is singing or humming it all the bloody time!

It looks more Totoro than Mononoke. The sort of film I might enjoy if I was in the right frame of mind, but unlikely to think too much of afterwards because it is geared towards a younger audience.

I got annoyed by the singing after watching the trailer. Have you seen the film yet?

Yes. It is based on The Little Mermaid.

I thought it was just like The Little Mermaid, but in Japanese.

So, slightly better.

Yeah, I saw it too. I thought it was okay, but it may have been more enjoyable if I had been 10 years younger.

This isn't one of the best movies I've seen by Miyazaki. I like how it ties in with family values and friendship. Just one of the bigger themes for most of these movies.

Ponyo will be getting a theatrical release this month in the state starting on August 14th. I hope it plays at a theater near me!

Also, it'll show in Australia on August 27th... I watched it on DVD already.

Quite a competent Miyazaki movie, but I think was a bit cluttered with moments that remind you of his other movies, rather than being a standout on its own. I think I know what Mamoru Oshii meant when he described it as kinda a bunch of random epic moments all strung together.
