Thumbs up Chrono Crusade

I just finished disc 1 of this series, episodes 1-4. There are six discs total.

The premise: During the 1920’s in the US, the Magdalene Order is dedicated to fighting devils, many called to Earth by the lazy upper class who have nothing else to do. Several young women work as highly trained “exorcists” to eliminate these demons. One of these is Sister Rosette Christopher, who often does more damage killing the devils than the devils do themselves. She is assisted by a devil named Chrono.

This is a comedy action series that really does not seem to set any new standards in either comedy or action. But there is a bit of darkness attached to the story which is keeping my interest. There is the matter of Chrono’s true form and power, his connection to Rosette, and the mystery surrounding Rosette’s brother Joshua. Some of this is revealed in the first four chapters.

Anyway, I will continue watching. If anyone has any comments, please post. But remember - NO SPOILERS PLEASE! I will post again after I finish disc 2.

I've finished disc 2, episodes 5-8. The story seems to be getting less interesting, although we do meet the main villian -- sort of. And Rosette gets a clue as to the whereabouts of her missing brother Joshua. From the preview for episode 9, next is the background story. So I guess I will have to watch disc 3, especially since I already have it.

For disc 1, I watched both the English and the Japanese dubs with subtitles. There is little difference between the two, except that sometimes the dialog in the English version is spoken too quickly to pick up, or it is just garbled. So I will only watch the Japanese dub with subtitles from now on.

More later.

I finished disc 3, episodes 9-12. Quite frankly, I am not all that enthralled by this series. The comedy is forced and the action I have seen before. When something happens to grab my attention and imagination, they go off on a different direction for two or three episodes.

I’m not continuing this series unless someone out there can give me a reason to continue Chrono Crusade.

I saw this like 3 years ago. It wasn't bad. The ending is not expected.

But is it really worth continuing to watch? If I am not all that taken by the first three discs, is there any chance I would find the rest of the series entertaining?

Well you have watched that much of the series and don't like it than I don't think the rest of the show would change your opinion. All I will say the ending is sad, not what I exactly expected.

I liked Chrono's character, but I felt the same way, MeMyself. I watched the first few episodes, dropped the series, and then watched the ending just to get closure. It was a sad ending that was quite nice in a bittersweet way, but I don't really regret missing most of the season.

Yeah, that ending almost made me want to go back and actually watch the whole thing, but then I thought better of it, after remembering that there were other shows I wanted to see more.

I stopped watching after episode 12, but I think I can guess how it ended. Chrono gives up his life to let Sister Rosette live. Am I right? (You can hide your answer as a spoiler. Again, this is just my guess.)

No the ending is much more sad than that. Much sadder damn it makes me sad just thinking about it. Great now im all depressed. If you stopped at ep 12 you missed the best parts of the series it diddnt even start getting that good until after

I'm sorry if I made you depressed, but that's what alcohol is for.

Maybe I will pick up the series again sometime. If I am lucky, it will be on On-Demand.

But for now, I am about to begin a new series.

See, that's what I expected too. The ending took me by surprise, which was why I was so tempted to go back and rewatch it. But not tempted enough to actually do it, heh.

I decided to take up the series again from where I left off - disk 4, the next three episodes. I figured I will remember any important details.

Anyway, it seems they finally decided to get down to the main storyline. So maybe I did quit the series too soon. Then again, the main storyline does not seem to be anything special. But this time I decided to finish the series regardless. Although I am having trouble getting the discs from Netflix. They don't appear to be available locally.
